Progress Continues

Well, last night was my second swim session after reviewing the TI video. Honestly I was a little worried that I would revert back to the form I had before.

But I didn't. I was more comfortable in the face down position, almost as if I had swum this way my whole life. And what a difference does a better form make! Previously I have swam maybe, 800 meters tops during a session. Last night? 1500 meters and I felt I could have gone farther. Granted I took frequent short breaks, levelling off at 30 seconds per 100 meters, but my splits were very consistent. Total time was 19:04.

Tonight is a run night, but I am taking the night off. First, my legs are still tired from Monday, when I went mountain biking for two hours. Plus it is meeting night for the local tri club, and I am off to check them out, a good reason for a break.

All in all things are going much better than I thought they would. I can't wait for the season to start.

Hey Drew,
1500 meters in 19 minutes is not bad; at least from my point of view. I was pretty much in the same boat when I started in this sport. I never had any formal swim training and had to start from square one. I get frustrated frequently, but all I have to do is look back and see how far I've come to get encouraged again.
If you ever make it to Kodiak, be sure to look me up. It's an amazing place. It gets under your skin and you can't shake it.

1500m in 19 minutes at this point in the season is definitely a great start for someone who is afraid to put their face in the water. I'm sure you'll get used to it quick and be near the front of the pack in your first tri!

Good luck!

Total immersion is good stuff. Swimming is all about technique. have good technique and you'll get fast.

I cant do gluten free beer. I'm a beer snob.

swimming is certainly the limiter in those new to triathlon. it looks like you have some of that in your background so its just a process until you realize that your probably pretty good at it and something else is your limiter.

You'll do great at a sprint distance swim. My first was only 400 yards and felt like I died out there. My picture out of the water is down right exhausted beached whale. So there is hope.

I second Tri Daddy's comment. 1500m in 19 minutes is pretty awesome considering the whole "I'm not all that comfortable in the water" factor.

Perhaps it's that discomfort that moves you along. "I want to get out of the water as fast as I can."

And ZOOM, it's like you have a motor attached to your, um, well, uh, you know what.
